Tips for RVing with Pets: Road Trip to Colorado with My Corgi, Enzo

If you’re thinking about hitting the road with your furry friend, there’s nothing quite like RVing with your pet. In June of 2023, my wife Jennifer, our corgi Enzo, and I embarked on an unforgettable adventure from our home base to the stunning landscapes of Colorado. Traveling with Enzo, who’s as loyal and spirited as they come, made this trip extra special.
Our First Stop: Caprock Canyon
Our first destination was Caprock Canyon State Park in Quitaque, Texas, 533 miles away from home. It was the perfect place to kick off our journey. The rugged red cliffs and roaming bison were breathtaking, but the best part was watching Enzo explore new sights and smells. True to his herding instincts, he’d stop and wait for us if we lagged behind, or come back to check on us. It’s in his DNA, and it’s one of the many reasons he’s the perfect travel companion.
Our RV Setup: Simple and Cozy
For this trip, we rented a 22 ft Winnebago Micro Minnie, which was just the right size for our small family. It had everything we needed, from a cozy sleeping space to a functional kitchen for whipping up meals on the go. Enzo had his corner with his favorite toys, treats, and a comfy bed to rest after long days of adventure. One thing I’ve learned about traveling with pets is to always come prepared, so we brought his harness—a must-have since he’s an escape artist with his collar. Tips for RVing with Pets
Why RVing with Pets is a Must-Try
There’s something magical about exploring the great outdoors with your four-legged best friend. Enzo loved sticking his head out the window as we drove, taking in the fresh air and views. Seeing the world through his eyes reminded me to slow down and appreciate the little things. Colorado’s stunning sunsets and diverse habitats were even more memorable with him by our side.
This road trip wasn’t just about the destination; it was about the journey, the laughs, and the bonding moments we shared as a family. Whether you’re a seasoned RVer or planning your first trip, I highly recommend bringing your pet along. They’ll add a layer of joy and adventure you never knew you needed.
